EAL pupil Agata gets top grades after joining Corby school with limited English

Kingswood Secondary Academy pupil, Agata Jaremba, achieved a distinction* in business, a distinction* in travel & tourism and a grade B in health & social care after joining the Northamptonshire school from overseas with limited English.

Agata moved to Corby from Poland and had only been in the UK for a short time before starting at Kingswood, developing her English skills alongside her studies.

Catherine Stevenson, vocational teacher and progress leader said: “As soon as Agata joined the sixth form, she worked extremely hard, she took on board all work and tasks with enthusiasm and was dedicated to her studies.

“Agata’s success in her studies lies solely with herself and her determination to succeed. She was motivated and driven from the start of Year 12, willing to take on feedback, and made improvements suggested in order to achieve the grades that she was capable of, and then exceeding them.

“At times her language could prove a barrier to her, particularly in areas of grammar, yet she strove hard to overcome this and made amendments to her work as required.”
