New guide for schools on how to make the best use of teaching assistants

A free resource to help schools evaluate and improve their deployment of teaching assistants has been released today.

The Teaching Assistant Deployment Review Guide has been launched by consortium Whole School SEND, part of the London Leadership Strategy.

The resource has been part-funded by the Department for Education and developed by researchers from both the London Leadership Strategy and the Maximising the Impact of Teaching Assistants project, based at the UCL Institute of Education.

Simon Knight, director of Whole School SEND said: “The effective deployment of teaching assistants is a critical component of successfully meeting the additional educational requirements of learners with SEND.

“This guide will offer an invaluable opportunity for schools to work with one another to develop practice around the effective deployment of TAs, and in doing so, work towards securing better outcomes for children.”

Whole School SEND will be hosting a free training day in London for senior leaders, to teach them how to make the best use of the guide.

You can download the guide for free here.
