New members of the Education Select Committee were recommended to the House of Commons on Monday. The eleven will now sit on the cross-party scrutiny board which meets on an almost weekly basis.
Ann McGauran dug into their biographies and election supporters to discover who they are and what they will bring to the table.
I’m very, very concerned at the low levels of educational expertise the committee members display. It cannot be effective if the committee only has one former teacher, and absolutely no-one with an early years or a primary education background. If we don’t get education right from first principles, anything else that is done is worthless -like putting a band-aid on a cancerous tumour.
