TV presenter Angellica Bell is leading a call for all children to learn British sign language.
The former children’s presenter has made a free educational video for national charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, to help to raise awareness in schools.
The One Show reporter says that she is thrilled to support the Let’s Hear It campaign for Hearing Dogs for Deaf People as the charity transforms the lives of deaf adults and children. “I also hope that children will become more deaf-aware by learning the basics of British sign language.”
Angellica says that it is “crucial” to educate young people about deafness because more than 800,000 people in the UK are severely or profoundly deaf, 45,000 of them children.
Downloadable educational resource packs for teachers and parents include deaf awareness activities and sign language tutorials.
