New education minister Baroness Berridge has taken on the school system brief previously held by Lord Agnew, the Department for Education has confirmed.
Berridge was promoted last week. She was previously a whip who sometimes spoke for the government on education issues in the House of Lords.
Her promotion follows that of Agnew, who is now a minister of state at the Cabinet Office and Treasury.
As minister for the school system, Berridge will succeed Agnew in being in charge of the academies sector. However, her full responsibilities are still yet to be confirmed.
The DfE has also confirmed that Michelle Donelan is the new universities minister, as revealed by Schools Week’s sister paper FE Week last week.
Gillian Keegan has also been confirmed as the new skills minister, while Vicky Ford is the new children’s minister.
It was confirmed last week that Gavin Williamson, the education secretary and Nick Gibb, the schools minister, will continue in their roles.
More to follow.
