The expiry of public private partnership (PPP) and private finance initiative (PFI) contracts is creating an estate, operational and capital challenge for many schools, with significant cost and resource implications if left too late.

While these contracts could be viewed as daunting obstacles, they’re also an opportunity for institutions to evaluate their estate’s effectiveness and identify where it could be improved, updated or optimised.

For more than two decades, PPP and PFI arrangements have enabled private sector partners to support school estates, from pupil accommodation to teaching facilities and infrastructure projects.
