The National Association of Head Teachers has officially selected Paul Whiteman as its new leader after his candidacy for the post of general secretary went unchallenged.
The deadline for members of the union to challenge Whiteman, who emerged earlier this month as the choice of the NAHT national executive committee, passed at 5pm today, and officials have confirmed that no further nominations have been received.
Whiteman, who is the union’s current director of representation and advice, will start in September when Russell Hobby, the current general secretary, officially stands down.
A former employee of the First Divisional Association, the union for senior civil servants, Whiteman is described as having “extensive leadership experience” in the sector.
