A guide to support people who want to nominate school governors for national honours has been created.

Produced by Martin Matthews, a national leader of governors, the Governors, do the Honours! booklet aims to “level the playing field” of nominations between governors and headteachers.

Mr Matthews says the “behind the scenes workers” are failing to be recognised because they do not know how to create a “high quality” nomination and “cannot afford” to pay out to companies to manage the process for them.

“People do not become governors for the adulation or lavish praise, but there are many who go above and beyond the usual. We should recognise these unique individuals and value them in the same way as exceptional educators.”
