Drew Povey, the headteacher featured in the hit TV series Educating Greater Manchester, has been suspended, according to local news reports.
The Manchester Evening News is reporting that Povey, the head at Harrop Fold School, and three other members of staff have been suspended.
Lisa Stone, lead member for children’s and young people’s services at Salford council , told the MEN that members of staff have been suspended and said the matter “is being dealt with according to the school and council’s procedures”.
“We cannot comment further but the council is supporting the school to provide stability until the end of the academic year. Our priority is the students and we will support the school to make sure their educational needs are met so they can achieve the best possible outcomes,” she told reporters.
More to follow.
Would be disappointed if this turns out to really be something serious. I thought Drew Povey, and Harrop Fold, came over really well on Educating Greater Manchester. I also saw him speak at the Education Festival and he seemed the type of person who could turn round a failing school and give opportunities to children that wouldn’t have had them otherwise.
I’m crossing my fingers he hasn’t done anything seriously wrong, and that this is a storm in a teacup with him being able to get back to the day job asap.
For anyone who wants to know more, the MEN is reporting is as a student coding issue:
