Stephanie Cumberland from Nottingham Academy juggled being a single Mum with her studies and achieved a distinction* in health & social care, a grade C in sociology and a grade D in photography.
The 18-year-old had to miss a large period of time in school due to her pregnancy, but determined not to allow her education and academic achievements suffer, she returned to school as soon as she was able to and later become deputy head girl at sixth form.
Stephanie now plans on going to Nottingham Trent University to study Criminology.
David Tungate, principal of the Nottingham Academy said: “We are immensely proud of Stephanie. Her dedication, both as a mother and a student have been inspirational.
“I am sure that Stephanie’s determination to continue with her education will help her build a brighter future for her family and it sets a wonderful example to her daughter. I look forward to hearing about her continued success at Nottingham Trent University.”
