Post-16 changes will not all be relevant to schools, so focus on the crucial aspects that do before you start curriculum planning

The post-16 education and skills white paper in October last year set out plans for reform in England, much of which centred on simplifying the 16 to 19 qualification landscape.

Since then, the Department for Education has provided a steady stream of further details, including its consultation response in March and the subsequent implementation plan in May.

The post-16 world is a mix of provider types, such as school sixth forms, sixth-form colleges, FE colleges and independent training providers, which means the new landscape will be utilised in many ways – and not all will be relevant to schools.
