Further Maths A level sees 2.5 percentage point boost to A* grades

The number of pupils achieving an A* in Further Maths has jumped by 2.5 percentage points – the largest increase of any A level subject, figures show.

Provisional figures published this morning by the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) show 29 per cent of the almost 15,000 entrants received the top grade this morning.

That has gone up from 26.5 per cent last summer.

Other subjects to see larger than average increases include French (1.5 percentage points) music (1.2 percentage points), and performing/expressive arts (1.1 percentage points).

Religious Studies has seen the biggest drop in A*s – falling from 6.2 per cent in 2014, to 5 per cent today. Sociology is not far behind, with a 1 percentage pont drop to 4.1 per cent.
